Claude Sonnet 5 to Transition to Standard Pricing on September 1
The price of Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5 API will transition to standard pricing starting September 1. Until August 31, the cost will be $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. From September 1, the price will increase to $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. The prompt caching price is set at $2.5 for writing and $0.2 for reading. Anthropic has announced the cancellation of the planned price increase for the Claude Sonnet 5 API and the transition of the launch price to a long-term price. The price difference is related to the introduction of a new tokenizer, which may process the same text with 1.0 to 1.35 times more tokens depending on the content type. The standard price for Claude Sonnet 5 is the same as that of Claude Sonnet 4.6. Anthropic reported that Claude Sonnet 5 could reach performance levels comparable to Opus 4.8 in some high inference intensity tasks. According to the official schedule, the standard pricing for Claude Sonnet 5 will take effect on September 1.
