Dali Light Transitions to Direct Supplier in NVIDIA's Optical Communication Supply Chain
Dali Light has expanded its role in NVIDIA's next-generation optical communication supply chain by transitioning to a direct supplier for Fiber Array Units (FAUs). The increasing demand for Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) for AI data centers has highlighted precision below 0.3 microns as a key competitive advantage. FAUs are modules that combine Fiber Arrays (FAs) and Micro Lens Arrays (MLAs), playing a crucial role in precisely aligning and transmitting optical signals within CPO systems. The volume of data transfer between GPUs and servers in AI data centers is surging, and CPOs are emerging as a major alternative to overcome the limitations of traditional plug-type optical modules in next-generation network architectures. NVIDIA has stated that CPO-based switches will improve power efficiency and network resilience. Dali Light is included in the FAU supply chain and is expected to commence mass production in the second half of next year. However, the timing of mass production and supply will depend on the confirmation of supply contracts and customer certifications. The precision issues of CPOs must consider the impact of poor optical signal alignment on overall module performance as the number of channels increases. Dali Light has secured FA mass production orders and reported that the precision of its FAUs has reached below 0.3 microns. This technology demonstrates the potential for precision machining capabilities from its existing camera lens business to be transferred to optical communication components.
