Fake DGFiP Letter Targets Crypto Holders

By: cryptoast.fr|2026/09/04 15:17:01

A fake letter from the DGFiP is circulating in France, asking recipients to declare their platforms, wallets, and DeFi protocols via a QR code leading to a fraudulent website. The document mimics the visual identity of the DGFiP, making it difficult to distinguish from an official document. It demands a list of digital assets held before September 5, under the threat of fines ranging from 40% to 80% and late interest. The QR code redirects to a fake digital assets portal. The first identified victims stem from a data leak from Colis Privé in January, and at least one victim is linked to the 2020 Ledger data breach. Clues such as errors in the letter and the absence of official logos should alert recipients. The DGFiP never communicates in this manner regarding crypto assets. In case of doubt, it is advised not to scan the QR code and to verify the authenticity of the document on impots.gouv.fr.

Global markets spent the weekend digesting last week’s payrolls data and crypto fund flows.
