Houthi Breaks Four-Year Ceasefire with Missile Launch at Saudi Arabia

The Houthi rebels in Yemen have launched missiles towards Saudi Arabia, breaking the ceasefire that had been in place since 2022. The Houthis stated that the missile launch was in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on the international airport in Sana'a, Yemen, which they control. A spokesperson for the Houthi forces claimed that Abha International Airport was targeted in the attack. The Saudi-led coalition reported that it intercepted all missiles launched by the Houthis. The Houthis labeled the Saudi airstrikes as 'blatant aggression' and declared the end of the de-escalation phase. The airstrikes on Sana'a airport are believed to have been carried out by Yemeni government forces. This attack by the Houthis comes amid escalating military clashes between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about the spread of conflict in the Middle East. The Houthis have previously attacked commercial vessels passing through the Red Sea, causing disruptions to shipping and energy supply chains. Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war for over a decade since the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sana'a, and this attack is seen as effectively undermining the ceasefire agreement reached in 2022.
