The Kia union has announced a partial strike from the 26th to the 28th, with work shifts being reduced by 2 to 4 hours. This comes as the Hyundai Motor union began an 8-hour full strike on the 21st, escalating labor disputes in the finished vehicle industry. The Kia union plans to hold a dispute response committee meeting on the 22nd to make a final decision on the partial strike. If the strike is executed, it could end a five-year streak of no disputes that has been ongoing since 2021. The union is demanding a basic salary increase of 149,600 won, a performance bonus of 30% of last year's operating profit, the implementation of a 4.5-day work week, and an extension of the retirement age to 65. In a member vote, 82% supported the strike, and they have secured the legal right to strike due to a decision by the Central Labor Relations Commission to suspend negotiations. The company has proposed a basic salary increase of 98,000 won, a performance bonus of 400%, and a payment of 12 million won. The labor conflict at Kia is intertwined with the Hyundai strike, as the Hyundai union began an 8-hour full strike on the 21st. The Kia union plans to reconvene the dispute response committee before making a final decision on the partial strike.
