OpenAI Launches New Model Series Astra to Enhance Multi-Agent Collaboration

OpenAI is preparing to launch a new series of models tentatively named "Astra," which will enhance capabilities in completing long-duration tasks. OpenAI founder Sam Altman has showcased Astra to policymakers and regulators in Washington. Astra is designed to enable multiple agents to work together over extended periods to tackle particularly challenging problems, making it suitable for projects or advanced mathematical issues. Astra will be a new class of models following Sol, Terra, and Luna. It is currently unclear when OpenAI plans to release this model, and it has not yet been decided whether Astra will be labeled as GPT-6 or as an additional model in the GPT-5 series. Insiders have revealed that these models are already in testing and are expected to be among the first to be submitted under the new framework established by the Trump administration, which requires AI models to be submitted to the federal government before being released to the public. The government has set a self-imposed deadline for this weekend, aiming to finalize the framework before then. Additionally, OpenAI plans to release a report detailing how it has addressed ten previously unsolved mathematical problems to demonstrate the capabilities of its state-of-the-art AI.
