Tether's Exposure to U.S. Treasury Surpasses $141 Billion by End of 2025
Tether (USDT) has reported that its direct and indirect exposure to U.S. Treasuries will exceed $141 billion by the end of 2025. In its Q4 2025 disclosure, Tether stated that its direct holdings have surpassed $122 billion. Throughout 2025, Tether has purchased an additional $28.2 billion in U.S. Treasuries, making it the seventh-largest buyer. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino mentioned in an interview that Tether could enter the top five buyers of U.S. Treasuries, although this is a personal outlook rather than an official announcement. As of March 31, 2026, Tether ranks as the 17th largest holder of U.S. Treasuries globally, with the $141 billion figure including both direct holdings and indirect exposure. The stablecoin manages its reserves in cash and short-term Treasuries in line with its issuance, establishing itself as a major player in the U.S. short-term financial market. The U.S. Treasury has reported that stablecoins will expand the demand for Treasuries, with Secretary Scott Bessen stating that stablecoin regulations could create an additional $2 trillion in Treasury demand. Tether emphasized that its exposure to Treasuries strengthens its connection with traditional financial markets, announcing in a KPMG audit that its assets exceed liabilities by $6.814 billion.
