Trezor Activates Clear Signing for Ethereum Transactions
Trezor has activated Clear Signing, a feature that allows users to review the details of transactions involving smart contracts directly from their device screens before signing them. This tool, available since September 7, 2026, requires updated firmware. Clear Signing replaces the encoded information of blind signatures with readable descriptions of the operation, displaying the requested action, the tokens involved, the amounts, and the destination address. The feature addresses the discrepancy between what a decentralized application shows and what the hardware wallet receives, facilitating the detection of token approvals and correct destinations. Clear Signing processes data on the device and is compatible with Ethereum, layer two networks, and other EVM networks. It uses the ERC-7730 standard to associate descriptors with smart contracts. Protocols such as 1inch, Aave, and Tether are supported, although it depends on each contract having a descriptor. The feature is available on Trezor Safe 7, Safe 5, Safe 3, and Model T with Universal firmware 2.12.4 or later; the Model One is not supported. Clear Signing does not guarantee the security of applications or contracts and does not prevent malicious transactions. The utility of the feature will depend on the number of contracts that incorporate compatible descriptors.
