Zankore Lands $3.1 Billion Loan for NVIDIA GPU Purchases

- The main variable to watch is execution: whether the financing translates into confirmed chip deliveries and data-center buildout, rather than remaining a headline-scale funding commitment.
- Bank participation matters because GPU-backed lending has been limited in Asia. If more institutions follow this structure, AI hardware could become a more standard collateral and project-finance category.
- The other key risk is external. The report highlights uncertainty around residual chip values and geopolitical pressure tied to U.S.-China technology competition, both of which could shape future lending terms and hardware availability.
Indonesian AI infrastructure platform Zankore has signed a $3.1 billion loan agreement to purchase advanced NVIDIA chips, with Citigroup, ING, Natixis, Qatar National Bank and UOB underwriting what was described as one of the largest AI infrastructure financings in Asia.
Zankore said the financing was backed by NVIDIA support and structured as a loan to fund purchases of advanced chips. The transaction brings together a group of international lenders, with Citigroup acting as sole debt advisor.
The lender group includes Citigroup, Dutch bank ING, Natixis, Qatar National Bank and UOB. The size of the facility places it among the largest disclosed AI infrastructure financings in Asia, according to the report.
The deal also highlights a developing niche in credit markets: financing tied directly to graphics processing units, or GPUs, which are central to AI model training and data-center operations. Banks and private credit firms have been paying closer attention to hardware-backed lending as demand for computing capacity rises.
In Asia, those bank-led transactions have been relatively uncommon. The report said lenders have been cautious because of uncertainty over chip residual values and geopolitical risks linked to U.S.-China technology competition. The available details did not disclose the loan tenor, collateral structure, delivery schedule, or specific deployment plan for the chips.
Why It Matters
This deal shows how AI infrastructure is increasingly being financed like a strategic industrial asset rather than a conventional technology purchase. Large-scale GPU procurement now sits at the intersection of hardware supply, credit markets and data-center expansion, giving lenders a more direct role in the AI buildout.
For the broader digital-asset and technology market, the development matters because capital is moving deeper into compute infrastructure, a sector that overlaps with AI-linked tokens, data-center narratives and institutional technology investment. It also underlines how access to advanced chips may depend not only on demand, but on financing structures and geopolitical constraints.
