Written 12 August 2026. Every price figure below carries the moment it was read, because on a day like this they are stale within hours.

PROM traded around $3.47 on 12 August 2026 at 13:09 UTC, against a close of $1.86 at midnight UTC the same day — a move of roughly 74% over 24 hours on volume about 40 times the previous day's. There is one dated, primary-sourced event behind it, and there is a second explanation circulating that does not survive checking. This page separates them, prints the numbers with their timestamps, and stops where the evidence stops. It contains no forecast and no price target. It also assumes you already know what the token is; if not, start with our explainer on what Prom (PROM) is.

What actually happened, with the source

At 11:11 KST on 12 August 2026, Upbit published a notice titled "프롬(PROM) KRW, USDT 마켓 디지털 자산 추가" — Prom (PROM) added to the KRW and USDT markets. The notice states the network as Ethereum, names the contract address 0xfc82bb4ba86045af6f327323a46e80412b91b27d, and gives the start of trading support as 12:30 KST on 12 August.

The precise wording matters more than usual here. This was not PROM's first Upbit listing. The same notice prints a previous-day closing price for PROM in Upbit's BTC market — 0.00003042 BTC, which the notice converts to 2,727 KRW and 1.93 USDT. A previous-day close in the BTC market can only exist if the asset already traded there. So the event is the addition of the Korean won and USDT markets to a listing that already existed, which is a meaningful expansion of who can buy it and in what currency, and is not the same thing as a first listing.

Upbit's notice also carried the standard opening-period constraints it applies to new markets: buy orders restricted for roughly five minutes after trading opened, sell orders more than 10% below the previous close restricted for roughly the same period, and every order type except limit orders restricted for about two hours.

The explanation that does not check out

Within hours, at least one crypto outlet attributed the move to a "MEXC 20× leverage listing". The 20× figure is right and the perpetual is real — but MEXC's own contract data dates that PROM perpetual to December 2023, and flags it as not new. A contract listed twenty months ago did not cause a move on 12 August 2026.

The same caution applies to the Binance perpetual, which was onboarded in January 2025. The WEEX perpetual cannot be dated in either direction — no public WEEX endpoint publishes a listing date for any of its contracts — so it is not offered here as a cause either. The only dated, primary-sourced event in the window is the Upbit market addition. Everything else offered as a cause falls into one of three categories: dated well before the move, not datable at all from any public source, or simply unattributed. None of the three is a cause, and the second is the one that gets mistaken for evidence — an undated listing is not a recent one.

    What the price actually did

Daily closes in US dollars, from CoinGecko's daily series, read at 13:09 UTC on 12 August 2026:

    • 8 August — $2.13, on daily volume of about $1.6 million
    • 9 August — $1.94, on about $1.0 million
    • 10 August — $2.05, on about $1.9 million
    • 11 August — $2.33, on about $2.8 million
    • 12 August, 00:00 UTC — $1.86, with volume already at about $20.4 million
    • 12 August, 13:09 UTC — $3.47, with 24-hour volume around $115 million

At the same reading, the 24-hour change was +73.7%, the seven-day change +76.8% and the thirty-day change +184.2%, with a market capitalisation near $63 million. Binance's own spot ticker for PROM/USDT at 13:15 UTC showed a last price of 3.452 and a 24-hour change of +73.0% on about 22.4 million USDT of quote volume — an independent venue reading in the same range.

The number that describes this day best is not the percentage. It is the volume: roughly $115 million against $2.8 million the day before. A token whose market capitalisation is around $63 million turning over more than its entire market value in a day is the actual event; the price move is what that does to a thin order book.

The largest single venue row in the aggregator's pair list on 12 August was Upbit's PROM/KRW market at about $59.6 million — roughly half of all reported volume, in a market that opened that morning. That is consistent with the sourced cause and is about as close to direct evidence of the mechanism as public data gets.

    What is not established

Everything beyond the Upbit notice. We are not attributing the remainder to speculation, to a coordinated campaign, or to anyone's positioning, because attributing it without evidence is itself a claim, and we do not have the evidence.

Specifically not established: why Upbit added the markets when it did; whether any other venue announced anything in the window; who bought; whether any single holder acted; and whether the project itself said or did anything connected to the move. We found no primary statement from the project about the day's trading. If one appears, it is new evidence and this page is not it. The wider list of what is and is not on the public record about Prom — the audit position, the team, the holder distribution, the supply figures that do not reconcile — is set out on our verification page.

Why moves like this behave the way they do

None of what follows is a prediction about PROM. It is the mechanics of a thin market absorbing a large new venue, which is the same on every token this happens to.

A new fiat market changes who can buy, not what the asset is. A Korean won pair means a large domestic user base can buy the token with the currency in their bank account, without first acquiring stablecoins. That is a genuine change in accessible demand. It is also a one-off change: the effect is concentrated in the days around the opening, which is why pages written about day one age badly.

Order books are thin at the edges. When daily turnover multiplies forty-fold, the resting orders that existed for the old volume are consumed quickly, and the price moves until it finds size. The same mechanism runs in reverse when the flow stops, which is why the volume figure, not the percentage, is the one worth watching.

Perpetual futures amplify both directions. Leveraged positions opened into a fast move are liquidated by the same move going the other way, and forced closes add to the pressure that caused them. Funding payments on perpetuals also swing hard when positioning becomes one-sided — and PROM's perpetual on at least one venue settles funding hourly rather than every eight hours as the majors do, so the cost of holding a crowded position accumulates faster than traders used to BTC or ETH contracts expect.

Cross-venue prices diverge during events like this, sometimes substantially, and Upbit's own notice warns its users about exactly that. A price on one exchange is not the price.

    Questions people actually ask

Why did PROM go up on 12 August 2026? The one dated, primary-sourced event is Upbit adding KRW and USDT markets that morning, with trading from 12:30 KST. Upbit's PROM/KRW pair then accounted for roughly half of all reported volume that day.

Did MEXC list PROM this week? No. MEXC's PROM perpetual dates to December 2023. The 20× maximum leverage is accurate; the listing is not news.

Was this a first-time Upbit listing? No. PROM already traded in Upbit's BTC market — the notice itself prints a previous-day close from that market. What was added were the KRW and USDT markets.

Will it continue? This page publishes no forecast, and any page that gives you a number for that is guessing. What can be said is what to watch: whether volume holds above its pre-event level once the opening period is over.

Where can I check the numbers myself? Upbit's notice board for the announcement, any major aggregator for the volume series, and the individual exchange's own market page for the price on that venue.

Trading the move rather than the token

WEEX lists a PROM/USDT perpetual futures contract that can be opened long or short, which is how a view on a move like this is expressed without holding the asset. Two specifications on this contract deserve reading before it is used: its maximum leverage is high, and its funding settles far more frequently than the major pairs. Current details are on the WEEX futures markets page. Leverage amplifies losses as well as gains, and on a market that has just multiplied its turnover, liquidation happens faster than most people plan for.
