Roman Gotsiridze stated that crypto farms in Georgia are putting pressure on the energy system without generating significant revenue for the budget. He noted that such companies are exempt from taxes and receive electricity at preferential rates. According to his estimates, crypto farms consume about 6% of the electricity produced in the country and annually use around 1 billion kilowatt-hours, which is comparable to the consumption of Batumi. Gotsiridze links the operation of crypto farms to accidents in the energy infrastructure and claims that they do not stop either in winter or summer, creating a constant load on the grid. The politician also points to a connection between crypto farms and the business clan of the ruling party, asserting that the largest crypto farm in Gldani is linked to Bidzina Ivanishvili. Gotsiridze demands an immediate ban on cryptocurrency mining in free industrial zones, emphasizing that the state should not support businesses that consume a lot of electricity but do not contribute significant tax revenues.
