Solana Launches Prediction Market Amid Technical Hurdles
- World started with a waiting list of over one million users.
- The contracts and market data are powered by Chainlink oracles.
World, the native prediction market platform based on the Solana network, launched its independent website at world.xyz on September 9. The opening came after registering a waiting list of over one million users.
However, just hours after the inauguration of World, the technical team disabled the portal due to overwhelming launch traffic, they claim.
Prior to this step towards a web domain, the protocol operated solely within Phantom, the most used digital wallet on Solana, since July. During this initial period, the company claims to have deployed over 150,000 markets focused on sports, cryptocurrencies, politics, finance, economics, and culture. Thus, the expansion to an independent site aimed to increase the customer base beyond wallet users.
Following this transition, the platform's catalog included the NFL regular season, seven soccer leagues, Formula 1, the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, and the Federal Reserve's decision. Regarding its internal architecture, each market operates through a pair of binary contracts of yes and no, with prices ranging from $0 to $1.
To ensure the functioning of these contracts, the infrastructure relies on Chainlink Data Streams and Chainlink Runtime Environment oracles. These tools feed data from external events to the network and automatically close contracts at the end of each event. Additionally, the final settlement of profits is executed in CASH, the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Phantom.
Specifically, the cause behind the high demand that triggered the temporary failure was linked to an incentive strategy. Alongside the launch, World initiated a paid promotional campaign in CASH, rewarding the first transaction of users after linking their X account.
In light of the server collapse, the development team communicated that the traffic "literally overloaded the site" and confirmed their disconnection "as a precaution." At the same time, they assured that "all funds are safe" and that the distribution of rewards will continue. Through X, the developers added: "Solana degens can do anything. They literally brought the world down." A day later, they clarified that the reopening will take time and that they will issue a prior notice before restoring the service.
Despite the current volume of World being far from established competitors like Polymarket, the company projects to incorporate new markets based on stocks, commodities like gold, silver, oil, and natural gas, as well as climate variables.
This pursuit of autonomy marks a shift in the previous strategy of the Solana environment. As reported by CriptoNoticias, in December 2025, the Phantom wallet integrated Kalshi, a prediction market registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, into its application. However, World replaced that agreement in June 2026 to establish itself as the native reference market within the platform.
