Tornado Cash processed 968 deposits on July 23, 2026, marking its busiest day of the year, according to L2Beat data. This increase indicates a resurgence of large-scale attackers since the U.S. Treasury lifted sanctions in March 2025, with overall usage continuing to rise despite developer Roman Storm awaiting a retrial. On that day, 29,573 ETH, valued at approximately 57200000 dollars, was deposited into the mixer’s Ethereum pools across 110 addresses. A significant portion came from the address labeled Drift Exploiter 4, which made 245 deposits totaling 23095 ETH, about 44400000 dollars, accounting for 78% of the day's inflow in under two hours. Onchain tracker Lookonchain reported that the exploiter who stole 285000000 dollars had deposited 23095 ETH into Tornado Cash, while still holding 107165 ETH, valued at 201000000 dollars. The deposits marked the first movement of funds from the April 1 exploit of Drift, which suffered the largest DeFi hack of 2026. Blockchain forensics firms have linked the attack to UNC4736, associated with the 1500000000 dollars Bybit hack. Excluding the exploiter, the remaining 723 deposits from 109 addresses surpassed most full days in 2025. Tornado Cash's usage has steadily increased since being delisted by the Treasury, capturing over 20% of crypto mixing volume in 2026, with weekly inflows ranging from 10000000 to 80000000 dollars. Storm's legal case is ongoing, with prosecutors seeking an October retrial on money-laundering and sanctions-conspiracy charges.
