Ukraine Changes Control Over Veterinary Drugs in Meat, Milk, and Eggs
On September 9, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a new procedure for determining the maximum allowable residues of pharmacologically active substances in meat, milk, eggs, and other animal-derived food products. The maximum levels will be established based on scientific risk assessments for human health. The new procedure defines the requirements for submitting applications and scientific dossiers for pharmacologically active substances used in veterinary medicines. Before establishing the permissible residue levels of such substances, an assessment of their potential impact on human health will be conducted. The rules apply to animal-derived products and aim to standardize the approach to controlling residues of veterinary drugs in food products. The regulation harmonizes Ukraine's legislation with EU Regulation No. 470/2009. For producers and exporters, this means further alignment of requirements with those in the European market.
